Week 5 Technique Summary

  1. Play through, hands together, counting out loud, on the fallboard. Imagine that you are playing the actual notes (spatially, topographically).
  2. Play through, hands together, with the metronome, still on the fallboard. See if you can be a tiny bit more ambitious with the metronome.
  3. Play through, hands together, with the metronome, on the actual notes. Stay with the metronome, even if you play wrong notes.

We are working to strengthen the visual and kinesthetic parts of our brain, and support the transmission of information down into our hands without worrying about correct notes. This allows us to prioritize rhythm and intervallic reading. Simultaneously, we are encouraged to continue without stopping, since notes are neither correct nor incorrect.
